Laekenois Standard

The American Kennel Club (AKC) Standard in the USA and The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) Standard in Europe have different approaches for the Belgian Laekenois. The AKC treats the Laekenois as a separate breed from the other Belgian Breeds where are the FCI treats all Belgians as the Belgian Shepherd or Chien Berger Belge.

The standards are also different with the most glaring example being the shoulder structure. The FCI requires a shoulder angle of 100-110 degrees whereas the AKC requires a 90 degrees layback. This structural difference has a direct impact on the style of motion in the breed.
